WHY ARE TRAUMA TREATMENTS NOT BEING OFFERED?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is the trauma treatment used by the Modern Solutions Counselling Services staff. ART uses eye movements to help individuals process their trauma and is only effective when implemented in person. Due to the current situation with COVID-19 in Alberta and wanting to promote physical distancing to prevent the spread of illness, phone and online sessions are the 2 methods of counselling being offered at this time. ART will be offered again as soon as it is reasonable to do so.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN THE FIRST SESSION?
In your first session, I typically ask questions about you and what brought you to seek therapy. This information helps me make an initial assessment of your situation and how I can help you. This typically takes between 60 to 90 minutes.
IS IT NORMAL TO FEEL NERVOUS ABOUT GOING TO MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
Absolutely! You are taking a big step admitting that you may need some help and that you are willing to meet with someone you barely know to talk about your problems. It's my job to make you feel comfortable with taking this step.
ARE YOUR SERVICES COVERED BY INSURANCE?
Yes, most extended benefit programs offer coverage for psychological services. I recommend you call your benefit company to understand what they offer as each company is a little different.
DO YOU DIRECT BILL?
I can direct bill to most extended benefit companies--just ask me at the time you schedule your initial session with me.
DO YOU OFFER SLIDING SCALE RATES?
I am willing to negotiate a payment plan however I do not offer a sliding scale rate at this time.
